P. 28
ON FRRH GRACH.
11 C. M.
God glorified in grace.
1 nr HE Lord, descending from above,
1 Invites his children near ;
While power, and truth, and boundless love
Display their glories here.
2 Here, in the gospel’s wondrous frame.
Fresh wisdom we pursue ;
A thousand angels learn thy name,
Beyond wliate’er they knew.
3 Thy name is writ in fairest lines,
Thy wonders here we trace ;
Wisdom through all the mystery shines,
And shines in Jesus’ face.
4 The law its best obedience owes
To our incarnate God,
And thy revenging justice shows
Its honors in his blood.
5 But still the lustre of thy grace
Our warmer thought employs,
Gilds the whole scene with brighter rays,
And more exalts our joys.
12 L. M.
Grace and works contrasted.
1 C ELF-RIGHTEOUS souls on worksrely.
And boast their moral dignity;
But if I lisp a song of praise,
Each note shall echo grace, free grace.
2 ’Twas grace that quickened me when dead
And grace my soul to Jesus led;
Grace brought me pardon for my sin,
And grace subdues my lusts within.
