SUFFERINGS OP CHRIST.
It is finished, it is finished,
Christ has borne the heavy load.
5 Tune your harps anew, ye seraphs—
Join to sing the pleasing theme;
All on earth, and all in heaven,
Join to praise Emmanuel’s name
Hallelujah! hallelujah!
Glory to the bleeding Lamb.
50 L. M.
Contemplation of the Cross.
1 \ A 7HEN I survey the wondrous cross
W on which the Prince of Glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.
2 Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ, my God;
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to his blood.
3 See, from his head, his hands, his feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down :
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet ?
Or thorns compose so rich a crown ?
1 Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
51 L. M.
Faith strengthened by a sight of the Cross.
1 I I/HEN on the cross my Lord I see,
’ » Bleeding to death for wretched me,
Satan and sin no more can move,
For I am all transformed to love.
