Abbie attended Livingston College for one year before marrying George Lamar
                     Beck of Geneva.  Abbie and Lamar were married May 15,1937.


                            Abbie is a member of the First Baptist Church.  Her mother Margaret, is a Charter
                     Member of the W.M.U.  of the First Baptist Church.  Abbie has worked in many areas of
                     the church, in the nursery, primary and other departments.  She also served on the building
                     committee as the decorating coordinator.


                            Abbie has been active in the community life of Geneva as a member of the
                     Athenaeum Club, Geneva Study Club, The Garden Club and is a past president of the
                     Geneva Woman's Club.  She has also served a s a scout Den Leader and a Den Mother.
                     Abbie was named Geneva's Woman of the Year for 1967.  She has served on the Geneva
                     County-City of Geneva Chamber of Commerce Beautification committee.  She is treasurer
                     of the Geneva County Historical Society.  She holds membership in the London
                     Genealogists society, the Folks-Huxfrord Genealogical Society, The Pea River Historical
                     Society, the Henry County Historical Society, and member of the DAR.  Abbie also served
                     as the Geneva County Cowbells' President from 1985-86.  Abbie has worked for the
                     Geneva City Schools in the lunch room.  In  1952, she became Director of the Geneva
                     Community Center.  A position she held until 1962.  In 1955, a new Community Center
                     with swimming pool was built and Abbie and her husband, Lamar became directors.  In
                     the Center provisions were made to provide catering services.  Abbie catered to groups of
                     25 to 300.  Activity was provided for the Junior and teen age children on Friday and
                     Saturday nights, supervised by Abbie and Lamar.  Some 250 children were present each
                     night.  Abbie and Lamar have also owned and operated several businesses.  The Geneva
                     Florist and Gift Shop, Abbie's Flowers and Gifts and Ethel's dress Shop.  Abbie sold these
                     businesses so that she would be able to travel with husband, who was traveling for the
                     U.S. Postal Service. Abbie also served as the Geneva County Cowbells President from
                     1985-86.


                            The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution certifies
                     that Abbie Harris Beck is a regularly approved member of the National Society of the
                     Daughters of the American Revolution having been admitted by the National Board of
                     Management by virtue of her decent from a patriot who with unfailing loyalty served as a
                     sailor, soldier, civil officer, or rendered materiel aid to the cause of American
                     Independence during the Revolutionary War.

                            Abbie enjoys working with flowers..  She also likes to putter around in her yard.
                     Abbie likes to cook.  She likes to cook for her family, as well as, her friends.  She likes to
                     collect antiques and play bridge.  She also likes to climb her family tree, adding some new
                     branches most every year.
