PEACHES WON'T GROW IF SWITCHES ARE MADE FROM LIMBS
by Abbie Harris Beck
Spring 1957
This spring as I was putting out some fruit trees, I explained to my older boys that
they must be careful while playing not to break the limbs. If they did, we would not have
any fruit. My three year old was playing near by and had heard my instructions about the
tree limbs.
I had been putting vegetables in the freezer all day. My 3 year old had been very
trying. First he emptied his dads after shave lotion in the commode. Then he gave his dog
my expensive B-12 pills. I had about completed my days work when I discovered that he
had painted the stairwell with nail polish !
When I discovered this , I took him by the hand, lead him to the kitchen, sat him
down on a stool and said, "Rickey, if you get into just one more thing today, I'm going to
go outside and get a switch from that peach tree and whip you good".
He put his little hand on his hip and said, "if you do, you won't have no peaches
neither".
