RELATIVES IN NORTH CAROLINA

Aunt Laura was left the ole home place where papa grew up. It was the home of
his grand parents, Owen and Jane Fowler Owen. Jane, their daughter, married Jesse
Richardson Harris and they lived with Jane and Owens Owen parents. The Owen home
was put together with wooden pegs and the shingles were hand made. Across the road
under a large oak tree is the Owen Harris private cemetery. One acre of land was deeded
by Owen and Jane Fowler Owen for the private cemetery. Several members of the Owen-
Harris families are still being buried in this cemetery today.

Aunt Ida lived in Clinton North Carolina. She was the nearest thing to a
grandmother that I ever had. When ever we visited North Carolina after papa died, I
would stay at Aunt Ida's . Her grand daughter Elsie Dean Reynolds was my age and we
played together while, mama Annie Laura and Maye visited around. Earlier my papa had
sent a little baby deer to Aunt Ida. She raised it to be big and tamed the deer. The year I
was in college mama went to North Carolina to visit. Neva and brother carried her. Aiint
Ida sent me and Annie Laura a crocheted bed spread that she had made.

Owen Owen, papa's older brother died July 5, 1876 at 18 years old. The older
boys had been working in the fields. They came in for dinner and their mama told them," I
have a hen cooked what do you want to go with it? "They said," dumplings." She said,
" it will take a little longer." Owen said "I'll wait but I'm going for a swim". He started
running for the creek. The others yelled, "don't go ." They ran after him and when they
came to the creek, he was no where to be seen. They found him 3 days later. From that
day the Harris boys were not allowed to go in a creek, pond, river or ocean.

Uncle Abe, my name sake found out that his daughter Jane was going to have a
baby, and not married. He grabbed his gun and was going to kill the boy. Four of his
friends heard and they caught Uncle Abe, locked him in a room for four days. He finally
cooled down and would not let the boy on his place. The boy's last name, Hall, tried to
see Jane but no one would let him. Jane had the baby and named her Katie. Uncle Abe
raised her as one of his own. After Uncle Abe died, Jane became very ill, Katie was
grown and married. The Hall boy had never married. He came and asked Jane on her
death bed to marry him. They married and 3 days later, Jane died, (told to me by James
                   Reynolds)

Theophilus Holmes Harris born April 10, 1861 married Bertha Johnson. Holmes
was an engineer on the train. Uncle Holmes, who I never knew, had 3 boys. One of his
boys served in World War I. Uncle Holmes died while the boy was still fighting the war.
The family did not let the boy know that his father had died until he came home, he had
just put his suitcase down when he was told about his father's death. He picked up his
suitcase and left with out a word., never to be heard from again.(by James Reynolds)

Harvey Burnett was the first descendant of John Daugharty, Revolutionary soldier
