INVITATIONS OF THE GOSPEL.
              And by forsaking every sin,
                Prove we are born of God.
            129                L. M.
                       Warning against hypoerieg.
            1 DROAD is the road that leads to death,
               13 And thousands walk together there ;
              But wisdom shows a narrow path,
                With here and there a traveller.
            2 ’Deny thyself, and take thy cross,’
                Is the Redeemer’s great command ;
              Nature must count her gold but dross,
                If she would gain this heavenly land.
            3 The fearful soul that tires and faints,
                And walks the ways of God no more,
              Is but esteemed almost a saint,
                And makes his own destruction sure.
            4  Lord, let not all my hopes be vain;
                Create my heart entirely new,
              Which hypocrites could ne’er attain,
                Which false apostates never knew.
            130                 L. M.
                          A solemn warning.
            1  C INNER, O why so thoughtless grown I
              O Why in such dreadful haste to die ?
              Daring to leap to worlds unknown,
                Heedless against thy God to fly !
            2 Wilt thou despise eternal fate,
                Urged on by sins delusive dreams ?
              Madly attempt th’ infernal gate,
                And force thy passage to the flames ?
