CHRISTIAN EXERCISES.
                     Its influence every fear disarms,
                       And spreads sweet comfort round.
                   2 Here, pardon, life, and joys divine,
                       In rich effusion flow,
                     For guilty rebels lost in sin,
                       And doomed to endless woe.
                   3 O the rich depths of love divine !
                       Of bliss a boundless store !
                     Dear Saviour, let me call thee mine,
                       I cannot wish for more.
                   4  On thee alone my hope relies ;
                       Beneath thy cross I fall;
                     My Lord, my life, my sacrifice,
                       My Saviour and my all.

                                  The mercy seat.
                   1 FROM every stormy wind that blows,
                     a From every swelling tide of woes,
                     There is a calm, a sure retreat—
                     ’Tis found beneath the mercy-seat.
                   2 There is a place where Jesus sheds
                     The oil of gladness on our heads;
                     A place of all on earth most sweet—
                     It is the blood-bought mercy-seat.
                   3 There is a scene where spirits blend,
                     Where friend holds fellowship with friend ;
                     Though sundered far, by faith they meet
                     Around one common mercy-seat.
                   4 Ah ! whither could we flee for aid,
                     When tempted, desolate, dismayed ?
                     Or how the hosts of hell defeat,
                     Had suffering saints no mercy-seat ?
