CHRISTIAN EXERCISES.

                           Faith in darkness given consolation.
                   1 A MID the dark, the dismal scene,
                         If I can say the Lord is mine,
                     The joy shall triumph o’er the pain,
                       And glory dawn, though life decline.
                   2 The God of my salvation lives,
                       My nobler life he will sustain ;
                     His word immortal vigor gives,
                       Nor shall my glorious hopes be vain,
                   3 Thy presence, Lord, can cheer my heart,
                       Though every earthly comfort die;
                     Thy smile can bid my pain depart,
                       And raise my sacred pleasures high.
                   4 O let me hear thy blissful voice,
                       Inspiring life and joys divine ;
                     The barren desert shall rejoice;
                       ’Tis paradise if thou art mine 1

                                 Trust in God at all times.
                   1 THROUGH all the changing scenes of lit*
                       1 In trouble and in joy,
                     The praises of my God shall still
                        My heart and tongue employ.
                    2 The hosts of God encamp around
                        The dwellings of the just;
                      Protection he affords to all
                        Who make his name their trust.
                    3  O make but trial of,his love,
                        Experience will decide
                      How blest are they, and only they,
                        Who in his truth confide.
